US SARR volunteer recruitment meeting

In case anyone is interested there is a recruitment for volunteers to be trained in search and rescue. This Friday January 3rd, 2014 at the Austintown Senior Center at 6:30PM. The Senior Center is located on Westchester Dr just behind PNC bank and Denny's Restaurant off of Mahoning Ave. US SARR is a regional group looking to add volunteers in our area.

Mahoning County Students can register to win a computer

The Computer Shoppe on Mahoning Ave is having its annual computer giveaway for needy Mahoning County students. Children in Kindergarten-12th grade can come down to the Computer Shoppe anytime from now until Dec 20th and receive an entry for a FREE computer system (CPU, flat-screen monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc) just in time for the holidays. TEN computer systems will be given away. The entries are FREE and so are the computers. This is just one way The Computer Shoppe gives back to the community at the holidays.

The child must be present to submit the entry. Open to all Mahoning County students in public or private schools, or home-schooled.

The computer systems are HP Dual-Core processor systems, completely refurbished and ready for use. These systems are perfect for those school projects that require a computer to complete.

Bring your kids, tell your students, tell your friends. 10 computer systems will be given away Friday, December 20th.

Project Feed Our Valley Holiday Concert

  • NILES, Ohio - 21 WFMJ presents its 7th annual “Project: Feed Our Valley” Holiday Choir Concert this Saturday from 11:00am-6:00pm at Eastwood Mall.  Donations of food and money will be collected to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank throughout the concert.  And the Cafaro Foundation will generously match all donations up to $10,000.
    Below is the entertainment lineup for the day: 
    ·         11:00am – Robinwood Lane & Market Street Elementary (Boardman) Children’s Chorus
    ·         12:00 Noon – Youngstown City Schools Vocal & Performing Arts
    ·         12:30pm – ROCcK Children’s Choir

Warren SOUP Seeks New Committee Members, Volunteers & Donors for Next Warren SOUP 2.1.14:


* Can you serve as a SOUP committee member? We will be discussing the previous Warren SOUP event, moving forward as a group, and planning the next SOUP, which will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 (DTBA). 

* Can you volunteer with Warren SOUP? (some of our needs include, but are not limited to: people to set up/cean up on event day; website designer; musicians to perform at SOUP; artists to display work at SOUP)

* Can you donote or seek donations of soup, bread, salad, refreshments, paper products, etc.?




PROPOSALS DUE: All proposals are due in hand by Tuesday 1/21/14 at 12pm and you will be contacted within a week before the Saturday, February 1st Warren SOUP.

Hope Classic invites men and women's scholastic teams from the region and beyond to come out and compete in a one-day game with teams they would ordinarily not face over the course of a season or lifetime. Though the competition is sure to be intense, the sportsmanship is well-demonstrated with all of the entrants, high caliber players and teams that have agreed to play in this great event.

Wigs for Kids Hair Donation event!


Would You Like a Free Haircut?
Would you be willing to donate your hair to the Wigs For Kids Organization? Wigs for Kids is a non-profit organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to medical
circumstances such as alopecia, chemotherapy, radiation, treatments etc. 

The students in Rosalyn Gault’s Cosmetology program at the TCTC will cut your hair for free. Your hair must be at least 10 inches long to donate. Hair may not be
colored, chemically treated or more than 10% gray.

On December 11 between 11:15 and 2:00, the students will perform this service for volunteers to this very worthy cause. Please call Mrs. Rosalyn Gault at 330-847-0503 ext. 1060 to schedule an appointment
Good Shepherd Community Church's Blessed Beginnings infant and toddler outreach ministry will be hosting a clothing giveaway of infants and toddler clothes. the giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th from 10 a.m. To 12 p.m.

Smoke Detectors are now available in Newton Falls

Newton-Falls-Joint-Fire-District says they will have smoke detectors are available for homeowners starting November 25 at Station 2 across the street from Arbys Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Additionally, these smoke detectors can be installed by Fire Department staff upon request.
